Before Nebraska (The Bolles School/Iowa State)
Brendan Black played three seasons at Iowa State before transferring to Nebraska. Black played in 36 games as a Cyclone with 30 starts at right guard.

In 2025, Black played in all 12 games and made 10 starts at right guard. He helped running back Carson Hansen earn All-Big 12 honors. Black played in all 14 games in 2024 with 13 starts at right guard. That season, the Cyclones set the school record for points scored in a season (435) and ranked fourth in school history with 27 rushing touchdowns. Black played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2023 and made seven starts at right guard. He became the first Iowa State true freshman offensive lineman to start a game since 2008.

Black played his high school ball for The Bolles School in Florida. An honorable-mention all-state pick, Black helped Bolles to the state playoffs in each of his final two seasons. Black was a three-star recruit ranked among the nation’s top 100 interior linemen by ESPN and On3.
