Southern Miss: Carried the ball three times for 34 yards, including a 20-yard run... picked up his second career TD in the third quarter on a 10-yard carry. UCLA: Carried the ball three times for 21 yards, with a long carry of nine yards. Arkansas State: Ran for a then-career-high 54 yards on a career-high 10 carries, as the Huskers rolled up a then-season-high 347 yards on the ground... previous highs in yards were 42 (at Minnesota, 2011) and carries were nine (at Wyoming, 2011)... added one catch on the afternoon for one yard. Idaho State: Improved his career high in yards for the second straight game with 74 against the Bengals after rushing for 54 yards the previous week against Arkansas State... scored his second rushing TD of the year and the third of his career and a career-high 27-yard carry in the third quarter... helped the Huskers rush for 385 yards on the day. Wisconsin: Carried the ball two times for one yard. Ohio State: Carried the ball five times for 24 yards back in his home state of Ohio... added a 20-yard reception in third quarter. Northwestern: Carried the ball once in the third quarter for 18 yards. Michigan: Did not play against the Wolverines. Michigan State: Did not play against the Spartans. Penn State: Returned to the backfield after missing the previous two games due to an injury... carried the ball three times for 25 yards, including a 15-yard run... all three carries came on one drive in the first quarter. Minnesota: Carried the ball seven times for 18 yards. Iowa: Carried the ball four times for 46 yards, an average of 11.5 yards per carry... setup NU’s go ahead touchdown with an 18-yard gain to the Iowa 6... Rex Burkhead scored from three yards out two plays later to give NU a 13-7 lead. Wisconsin (Big Ten Championship): Carried the ball six times for 28 yards, including a nine-yard score in the fourth quarter... helped the Huskers total 282 yards on the ground. Georgia (Capital One Bowl): Carried once for five yards against the Bulldogs.
2011 (Freshman)
Heard played in seven games and finished with 114 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. He rushed for more than 30 yards three times, with the first of those efforts coming against Washington when he had five carries for 34 yards. He added nine carries for 33 yards and a one-yard touchdown at Wyoming. An injury kept him out of the next two games, but he had a season-high 42 yards on seven carries at Minnesota.
Before Nebraska (Cardinal Mooney HS)
Heard was a standout performer for Coach P.J. Fecko at Ohio prep power Cardinal Mooney High School. Heard rushed for 1,973 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior, while he also caught a pair of touchdown passes and returned kickoffs and punts for the Cardinals. His play helped Cardinal Mooney to a perfect 15-0 record and the Division III state championship. In the state title game against St. Francis DeSales, Heard rushed for 178 yards on 28 carries, including touchdown runs of 53 and 26 yards. He also had a touchdown pass and an interception. Heard's play as a senior earned Heard first-team All-Ohio honors as a running back.
During his junior season, Heard excelled on both sides of the ball. He rushed for 959 yards and eight touchdowns, while playing a big role in the secondary, including a pair of interceptions. His defensive effort earned Heard Division IV All-Ohio honors as a cornerback.
Heard was rated among the top five running backs in the country according to Rivals.com. The service also ranked him among the top five players in Ohio and the top 60 overall recruits nationally. Scout.com also ranked him among the top 35 running backs in the country. Heard was also part of a state champion 4x100 meter relay team at Mooney.
Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pelini and offensive coordinator Tim Beck are graduates of Cardinal Mooney High. Heard chose Nebraska over offers from numerous schools, including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and West Virginia to name a few.
Personal
Braylon is the son of Michelle Sullivan and was born on Oct. 11, 1991. He has not declared a major. Heard has volunteered his time with local hospital visits, Husker Heroes and School is Cool Week.
