1985 (Senior)
Smith replaced All-Big Eight selection Bill Weber at left defensive end but unfortunately had his second injury plagued season in a row. Missing three games this fall, New Mexico, after he had surgery on his hand; Colorado and Kansas State after infection developed in the hand. Despite this he was still able to contribute a total of 25 tackles, 21 of them unassisted. Brad had a top tackle game of seven against Florida State. He recorded five against the Illini and Oklahoma, he also had a pass interception against Illinois. He also recorded two tackles for loss, totaling five yards. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the 1986 Fiesta Bowl against Michigan.
1984 (Junior)
Smith was an alternate behind Weber until he injured his knee against Missouri, he had arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage causing him to miss three games. But came back to play in the last two regular season games plus the Sugar Bowl. Smith had 14 regular season tackles in 1984, 11 of which were unassisted, and he broke up one pass. He had a good game against LSU in the Sugar Bowl, totaling three tackles while helping the Huskers to a 28-10 win.
1983 (Sophomore)
Smith earned a varsity letter as a sophomore while being the alternate behind Weber and recorded nine tackles, seven of them unassisted. He also broke up one pass and recorded a sack for a loss of seven yards.
1982 (Redshirt)
Brad redshirted his second season as a Husker.
1981 (Freshman)
Smith played as a reserve defensive end for the Huskers 5-0 freshman team.
Franklin High School
Smith played defensive end and tailback for Coach Tim Weisman at Franklin High School where he was a four year letterman in football, basketball and track. He was all-conference and honorable-mention all-state in both football and basketball.
Personal
Smith majored in finance and is the son of Henry and Sharon Smith.
