1993 (Senior)
A two-year letterman as a defensive tackle, Billy Wade played in all 11 regular-season games for the Big Eight champion Huskers as a senior in 1993. The 6-5, 260-pounder from Houston, Texas, also played in the 1994 Federal Express Orange Bowl national championship game against Florida State, but he did not record a tackle against the Seminoles. Wade recorded 22 tackles as a senior, including seven solos, while notching four tackles for 17 yards lost. He had three sacks for 16 yards, including a 10-yard sack in a season-opening win over North Texas. He also notched his only career quarterback hurry.
Wade closed his Husker career with 31 total tackles, including 10 solos and 21 assists, with seven tackles for 24 yards in losses. He had four career sacks for 19 yards lost. As a sophomore tight end, Wade, who played his first four varsity games as a tight end (1990, 1991), also caught a one-yard touchdown pass against Utah State. He appeared in 24 career games as a Husker.
1992 (Junior)
Wade earned his first varsity letter as a junior after playing in nine games for the Big Eight champion Huskers. Splitting time at both left and right defensive tackle, Wade notched nine tackles, including three solos. He recorded three tackles for seven yards lost, including a three-yard sack. He played in the 1993 Federal Express Orange Bowl against Florida State but did not record a tackle.
1991 (Sophomore)
Wade played two games for the Big Red as a tight end (Utah State, Missouri). He caught his only career pass with a one-yard touchdown against Utah State, before switching to the defensive side of the ball.
1990 (Freshman)
Wade started at tight end for the Nebraska JV team in 1990. He was the squad’s second-leading receiver with seven catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns in helping the JV to a 4-1 record. He also played two games with the varsity but had no receptions.
1989 (Redshirt)
A scholarship recruit, Wade redshirted as a true freshman.
Westfield High School
Wade played for former Texas A&M and Mississippi State Coach Emory Ballard at Westfield High School in Houston. Wade’s senior season was cut short by a knee injury that required surgery to repair a bone chip. In his first five games, Wade hauled in 20 passes as a tight end. He also played defensive end. He lettered in basketball and track and played the saxophone for three years in the school band.
Personal
The son of Billy Wade and Gloria Wade, Billy was born in Fairfield, Texas. He has one sister, Paula. He is a cousin of former Husker defensive back Jon Crippen. A human development major, Wade graduated in December 1993. He served the community as a volunteer speaker at local elementary schools.
