1972 (Senior)
Bill was bothered by an injured thigh through much of 1972, Olds still wound up the Huskers' third-leading rusher with 346 yards. Olds play on the field earned him a spot in the third round of the NFL Draft, being drafted by the Baltimore Colts with the 61st pick.
Bill helped Nebraska rank fourth in the conference in rushing offense, averaging 219.3 yards per game, and finished second in total offense at 440.3 yards per game. The Husker led the Big Eight in scoring, averaging 41.9 points per game.
Old gained 960 yards in his career and wound up with a whopping 6.3 rushing average, best ever for a Husker with more than 750 career yards.
1971 (Junior)
Bill earned the starting job at fullback his junior year. He was a Big Eight standout and gave Nebraska their first long-distance fullback threat since Frankie Solich in 1965. Olds had the top rushing average among 1971 starters at 7.1 yards per game, finishing as the Cornhuskers No. 2 rusher. Against Texas A&M, Bill rushed 67-yards for a touchdown marking the longest run from scrimmage during the ‘71 season. Olds finished the season with 534 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground and caught 12 passes for 79 yards and another touchdown.
The Huskers ground game produced 3,100 yards, good for third in the conference at 258.3 yards per game. Overall, the Husker offense averaged 437.7 yards and 39.1 points per game, ranking second in the Big Eight in both categories behind only Oklahoma. Nebraska finished with an undefeated record (13-0) and beat Alabama 38-6, in the National Championship game.
1970 (Sophomore)
Olds moved into the No. 2 fullback slot and had a fine year. Recording 80 rushing yards on 13 attempts and one reception for 19 yards.
Sumner High (Kansas City, Kansas)
Bill was a football, track and wrestling letterman under Coach William Spencer at Sumner High. Bill was enrolled in engineering college and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel James.
