Rutz was an All-State quarterback and a three-year starter for Coach Rob Green. Rutz threw for 4,388 yards and 34 touchdowns in his career, while completing 55 percent of his passes. Rutz earned All-American honors by SuperPrep, Blue Chip and Super Recruiting Illustrated and was one of 5-Alive's Top Ten Players-of-the-Year. He was also a three-year starter in baseball. Rutz is a recipient of the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Scholarship.
