Redshirt (2018)
Anthony Banderas sat out the 2018 season as a redshirt.

Before Nebraska (Lincoln Southwest HS)
Banderas earned honorable-mention all-state honors and a spot on the all-city team as a senior for Lincoln Southwest High School. He ran for 273 yards and four touchdowns as a senior and recorded 83 tackles over his final two years with four interceptions. Banderas was also twice named to the football all-academic team.

Banderas also excelled in track and field. Southwest's school record holder in the discus, Banderas won the 2018 Class A state discus title after finishing second in 2017. He was a city, conference and two-time district champion in the discus. In the shot put, Banderas placed third at the 2017 state meet and fifth in 2018, and he was a two-time city champion and a conference champion in the event.

Anthony's father, Tom, played tight end at Nebraska, lettering three years from 1985 to 1987. Anthony's older brother, Josh, was a four-year letterwinner at linebacker for the Huskers from 2013 to 2016.
