Senior Andrew Green was one of the most experienced players on the Huskers’ 2013 defense and showed his versatility as a defensive back during his senior season. After starting at corner in both 2011 and 2012, the 6-0, 195-pound Green shifted to safety as a senior and helped Nebraska field one of the Big Ten’s top pass defenses.

Green made 32 career starts, including 10 starts in 2013. He made 41 tackles as a senior, including 31 solo stops, while adding two tackles for loss and three pass breakups. Green registered at least three tackles seven times this in 2013, capped by a season-high six tackles against both Iowa and Georgia. He also had two pass breakups in the Huskers’ bowl victory. 

Green earned his degree in August in ethnic studies and was one of 19 Husker seniors to play the bowl game as a graduate. Green is one of 30 Huskers who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors this fall.

2013 (Senior)
Wyoming: Came off the bench and saw time in the defensive backfield... totaled three tackles. Southern Miss: Saw time off the bench at safety, but didn’t record any stats. UCLA: Played in his 30th career game at Nebraska... made two solo tackles and registered his first break-up of the season. SDSU: Made his first start of the season at safety... finished the game with a pair of tackles. Illinois: Started against the Illini and made four tackles, all solo stops. Purdue: Started at safety, his 25th career start... totaled four tackles, all solo stops, and one QB hurry. Minnesota: Started at safety and made one tackle. Northwestern: Started at safety in his 35th career game at Nebraska... posted a then-season-high five tackles, all solo stops. Michigan: Tied a season-high with five tackles for the second straight week, including his first TFL of the season. Michigan State: Started at safety and made a pair of tackles. Penn State: Made his 30th career start, producing one tackle. Iowa: Posted a season-high six tackles in his final game at Memorial Stadium, including his second TFL of the season. Georgia: Tied his season high with six tackles, including four solo stops... tied his career high with two breakups, including a fourth-quarter PBU on fourth down to end a Georgia scoring threat.

2012 (Junior)
Green started 12 games in 2012 at cornerback and made 50 tackles, including 28 solo stops.  He added three tackles for loss and a sack, and he also had three pass breakups. Green had four games with at least five tackles, including a season-high eight tackles twice.

Green opened the year with four tackles against Southern Miss, then had seven tackles, including his first career sack at UCLA. Green had four solo tackles at Northwestern and made six tackles and had his first breakup of the season at Michigan State. Green made four more tackles against Penn State and also had a tackle for loss and breakup against the Nittany Lions.

Green recorded his third breakup of the year against Minnesota, before recording a season-high eight tackles in the regular-season finale at Iowa. He had a team-high eight tackles, including a tackle for loss against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game.

2011 (Sophomore)
Green finished with 48 tackles, including 29 solo stops. His eight pass breakups were second on the team, and he grabbed his first career interception against Iowa. Green added a pair of tackles for loss, and his play helped Nebraska hold Big Ten opponents to a 51 percent pass completion percentage, the best mark for a conference defense.

In his first career start against Chattanooga, Green had four tackles and a breakup. Against Fresno State he had three tackles and a breakup, before making seven tackles and adding a breakup against Washington. Green totaled four tackles over the next three games, before posting five tackles at Minnesota.

Green returned to the starting lineup against Michigan State and helped NU hold the ninth-ranked Spartans to 86 passing yards. Green had two tackles for loss among his seven stops in the game. Green had a career-high 10 tackles and two breakups in a 17-14 win at No. 12 Penn State. He also broke up two passes at Michigan, before finishing the regular season with a pick and six tackles in a 20-7 win over Iowa.

2010 (Redshirt Freshman)
Green was a reserve corner and appeared in NU's win over Idaho. 

2009 (Redshirt)
Green sat out as a redshirt and worked on the NU scout team.  

Before Nebraska (James Madison HS)
Green starred at San Antonio's James Madison High School, where he helped Coach Jim Streety's team to a 9-3 record and a trip to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Green amassed 56 tackles, 10 pass breakups and recovered a fumble to earn second-team all-area honors from the San Antonio Express-News.

Green also returned kicks for Madison and was a first-team all-district pick for his efforts on special teams. Green also dominated in the secondary as a junior, when he picked off five passes and recorded eight pass breakups, while also making 70 tackles. Green rushed for nearly 700 yards and six touchdowns as a junior and was a second-team all-district pick. His play during his junior season helped Madison to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Green chose NU over Oklahoma, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Baylor and Iowa State.

Personal
Andrew is the son of Tony and Charlar Green and was born on Aug. 21, 1991. He is an ethnic studies major. Green’s father, Tony, played collegiately at Baylor from 1975 to 1978. His uncle, Gary, also played for the Bears and played nine seasons in the NFL as a cornerback, including four seasons as a Pro Bowler. Green has volunteered his time with multiple elementary school and hospital visits. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2011-12 and 2012-13. He was also a two-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll pick. Green’s younger brother, Aaron, played for Nebraska last season before transferring to TCU.
