Aaron Green Season 2011

2012 (Outlook)
Sophomore I-back Aaron Green was one of three talented true freshmen to make an impact at the position for Nebraska in 2011. The 5-11, 190-pound Green joined Ameer Abdullah and Braylon Heard in backing up All-Big Ten honoree Rex Burkhead in 2011. Green was often utilized as one of three backs when NU lined up in its diamond formation throughout the second half of the year.

Green and Abdullah continue to battle for playing time at I-back in the spring of 212, while Heard made the move to the defensive backfield. The stable of running backs should help Nebraska again field one of the nation's top rushing attacks.

Green showed excellent speed and vision in 2011, and found the end zone three times, twice on the ground and once as a receiver. Green's older brother, Andrew will be a junior cornerback for the Huskers in 2012.

2011 (Freshman)
Green played in 12 games and finished as the Huskers' fifth-leading rusher with 24 carries for 105 yards. Green had five carries for a season-high 36 yards against Washington, including a six-yard touchdown run. In that game he also had a 25-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Green rushed for 19 yards at Wyoming, then had a season-high six carries for 20 yards and a four-yard touchdown run at Minnesota.

Before Nebraska (Madison HS)
Green was one of five freshmen from the state of Texas to join the Huskers in 2011. In his final three seasons of high school football, Green amassed nearly 5,000 rushing yards for Coach Jim Streety.

As a senior, Green rushed for 1,717 yards and 19 touchdowns on 240 carries. His play helped Madison to a 7-4 record and a trip to the Class 5A state playoffs. Green was an honorable-mention all-state pick by the Associated Press for his efforts. 

He also posted huge numbers during his sophomore and junior seasons. In 2009, he rushed for better than 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns, while adding 151 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. His play as a junior earned Green honorable-mention all-state honors and helped his team to the state playoffs.

Green first showed his explosiveness for Madison as a sophomore, when he rushed for 2,024 yards and 27 touchdowns and also caught 16 passes for better than 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Green was one of several Nebraska 2011 freshmen to take part in the U.S. Army All-America game in San Antonio. Green was ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect in the country by ESPN, while Rivals.com ranked him among the top 70 players in the nation and both Rivals and Scout.com listed him among the nation’s top 10 running backs. He was also mentioned as one of the top 10 prospects in the state of Texas by Rivals. Green was offered by nearly every school in the country, but his only other official visit was to Florida State.

Personal
Aaron is the son of Tony and Charlar Green, and he was born on Oct. 15, 1992. Green’s father played collegiately at Baylor from 1975 to 1978. His uncle, Gary, also played at Baylor and went on to nine seasons in the NFL as a cornerback and was selected to four Pro Bowls. Green's brother, Andrew, was a sophomore cornerback at Nebraska in 2012.
