2022 (Senior)
Oliver Martin saw action at receiver in every game in 2022, while also lining up as a punt returner. He had 11 receptions for 195 yards and one touchdown, setting career highs in catches and receiving yards. Martin caught his first two passes of the season against Georgia Southern, totaling 36 yards including a 26-yard catch. He then had an 18-yard reception against No. 6 Oklahoma. Martin earned his first start of the year against Indiana and caught three passes for 65 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown. At Rutgers, he had two catches for 16 yards. Martin caught one pass at Purdue, a career-long 45-yard reception. He had an eight-yard reception against Wisconsin. Martin played the final game of his career in his home state of Iowa, catching a 7-yard pass in Nebraska's victory.
2021 (Junior)
Martin battled injuries early in the season, but played in eight games with three starts in 2021. Martin caught nine passes for 147 yards and one touchdown while returning three punts for 19 yards.
He had a big game in the opener at Illinois, leading all players with six receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown. His six catches and 103 yards were both career highs, and he also hauled in a then-career-long 43-yard reception. Following his big game, Martin missed the next four games due to injury. Martin returned to start against Northwestern and had a five-yard reception. Martin caught two passes for 39 yards against No. 9 Michigan, including a 30-yard reception. He hauled in a 23-yard pass against Purdue and returned one punt for 11 yards. Martin had a two-yard punt return against No. 6 Ohio State.
2020 (Covid Season)
Martin received an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA in November. He went on to play in each of the season’s final five games, starting the final four contests and finishing with five catches for 63 yards.
Martin made his Husker debut against Illinois, catching two passes for 30 yards and returning one punt for seven yards. Martin started at Iowa and had a seven-yard catch, and he earned another start at Purdue. He started for the third time against Minnesota and had a 22-yard catch. He ended his year with a four-yard reception in Nebraska’s win at Rutgers.
Before Nebraska (Iowa City West HS/Michigan/Iowa)
Martin joined Nebraska as a transfer walk-on after previously playing for both Michigan and Iowa. He played in 21 games before Nebraska and caught 16 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Martin redshirted in his first season at Michigan in 2017, then appeared in 13 games with one start as a redshirt freshman in 2018, catching 11 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown. Martin transferred to Iowa prior to the 2019 season and had five catches for 28 yards and one touchdown in five games for the Hawkeyes as a sophomore. In high school, Martin was a U.S. Army All-American, the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year and a finalist for the 2017 Iowa High School Athlete of the Year. As a standout for Iowa City West High School, he set state records for career receptions (239), receiving yards (3,449) and touchdowns (33). Martin was also an eight-time state champion swimmer at Iowa City West.
Personal
The son of Jeff and Lisa Martin, Oliver was born on Nov. 3, 1998. A finance major, Martin earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May 2022, and will take graduate courses this fall.
