Ochaun Mathis made an impact in his first season at Nebraska, playing extensively in every game with two starts. The nation's No. 1 edge transfer according to On3, he ranked second on the team with 3.5 sacks and added 5.0 tackles for loss and 50 total tackles with two pass breakups.

Mathis finished with eight tackles in his Husker debut against Northwestern. The next week against North Dakota, Mathis had two tackles, including a five-yard sack for his first sack as a Husker. Mathis totaled five tackles with a half TFL against Georgia Southern. Mathis had seven tackles against No. 6 Oklahoma. He recorded two tackles and had a pass breakup against Indiana. In the win at Rutgers, he posted four tackles with one sack, and he had a key pass breakup on the Scarlet Knights' final possession. Mathis recorded eight tackles at Purdue. He added three tackles in the next game against No. 17 Illinois. Mathis made a big impact against Minnesota, finishing with four tackles including 1.5 TFLs and a half sack. He made his first start as a Husker at No. 3 Michigan and finished with three tackles and a pair of quarterback hurries. He made an impact against Wisconsin with a 13-yard sack. Mathis was disruptive in Nebraska's season-ending win at Iowa, recording three tackles and three quarterback hurries.

Mathis played in 38 games in four seasons at TCU, including starting each of the Horned Frogs’ 34 games over the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in both 2020 and 2021 and recorded 135 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks and four pass breakups in his TCU career.

In his final season at TCU in 2021, Mathis started all 12 games and totaled 45 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 7.0 tackles for loss. He tied for the team lead in sacks, ranked second in TFLs, third in pass breakups (3) and fifth in tackles (45) en route to earning second-team All-Big 12 honors for the second straight season.

Mathis had a breakout 2020 campaign, starting all 10 games in the pandemic-shortened season and earning second-team All-Big 12 accolades. Mathis led the Big 12 and ranked 12th nationally in sacks per game, averaging nearly 1.0 sack per contest. He finished with nine sacks, which were the most by a Horned Frog in three seasons. Mathis totaled 46 tackles overall with 14.0 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Mathis started all 12 games of the 2019 season, finishing fifth on the team with 40 tackles, second with 9.0 TFLs and third with 2.5 sacks. He played in four games and totaled three tackles and a half-tackle for loss in 2018, when he redshirted.

Out of high school, Mathis was a three-star prospect ranked among the top 100 players in the state of Texas. He recorded 75 tackles with 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks as a senior for Manor High School. As a junior, Mathis was a first-team all-district honoree.

Ochaun was born on Jan. 8, 1999, and is the son of Bruce Sr. and Ochana Mathis. He earned his degree in general studies from TCU and is taking graduate courses at Nebraska.
