Mason Jones redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Burke HS)
Jones was a versatile two-way player for Omaha Burke High School. He was recognized as one of the top players in the Omaha area and in the state of Nebraska with selections to play in the River Battle Bowl and the Nebraska Shrine Bowl.

Jones had 191 rushing yards, 196 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns as a senior, according to MaxPreps. On defense, he was credited with 17 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. Jones also forced one fumble and recovered one fumble. He was a team captain as a senior, earning honorable-mention All-Metro recognition from the Omaha World-Herald. As a junior, Jones helped Burke advance to the second round of the Class A state playoffs. He played a variety of positions for the Bulldogs, including slot receiver, running back, safety and outside linebacker. Jones began his career at Omaha Northwest High School. He also competed in basketball, wrestling, track and field and baseball during his high school career.

Mason’s stepfather, Mike Jones, played college football. Mason’s uncle, Clinton Childs, was a member of Nebraska’s back-to-back national championship teams in 1994 and 1995.
