2023 (Senior)
Luke Reimer, who played his final season as a graduate, started 10 games in 2023, missing two games due to a non-football related illness. He recorded 48 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks, ranking second on the team in sacks and third in TFLs. Reimer was chosen as a third-team All-Big Ten selection from the conference coaches while he was an honorable-mention pick from the league media.
Reimer was a key member of a Blackshirt defense that posted Nebraska's best rushing defense (92.9 yards per game), total defense (303.5 yards per game) and scoring defense (18.3 points per game) since the Huskers joined the Big Ten in 2011. NU ranked in the top 20 nationally in each of those three categories. Reimer wore the No. 4 as one one of 10 Huskers to earn a single-digit number in a team vote selecting him as one of Nebraska's "toughest" players.
Reimer had five tackles at Minnesota, and his final tackle was the 250th of his career, as Reimer became the 13th Husker with 250 career tackles. at Colorado, Reimer had five more tackles, including a career-high 1.5 sacks. He made two stops and had two quarterback hurries against Northern Illinois. Reimer had two early tackles against Louisiana Tech before leaving the game with an injury. Reimer missed the Michigan and Illinois games but returned to start against Northwestern and had six tackles with a two-yard sack. He had three solo tackles against Purdue, including a five-yard tackle for loss. Reimer recorded a team-high seven tackles at Michigan State, becoming the seventh player in program history with 275 career tackles. Reimer totaled four tackles against Maryland with a pair of quarterback hurries. He had four tackles at Wisconsin, including a six-yard sack. In his final game, Reimer totaled 10 tackled against Iowa with 1.0 TFL, marking his 10th career game with double-digit tackles.
Reimer finished with 293 tackles as a Husker, which ranked third on Nebraska's all-time tackles list at the conclusion of his career.
2022 (Junior)
Reimer started 10 games as a junior, missing a pair of games due to injury. Despite the injuries, Reimer led Nebraska with 86 tackles while adding 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, five pass breakups and one interception. Reimer was recognized as an honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media.
Reimer had a game-high 15 tackles in the opener against Northwestern. He then made seven stops against North Dakota. Reimer tied his career high with 1.5 TFLs as part of a nine-tackle effort against Georgia Southern that also included a pass breakup. Against No. 6 Oklahoma, Reimer led NU with eight tackles, including a four-yard sack. He finished with five tackles and had a career-high two pass breakups against Indiana. An injury limited Reimer’s snaps at Rutgers, but he still finished with five tackles and two more pass breakups. The injury kept Reimer out of action the next week at Purdue.
Reimer returned to lead Nebraska with nine tackles against No. 17 Illinois, including a half tackle for loss. He added nine tackles with another half TFL against Minnesota. Reimer posted his ninth career game with double-digit tackles at No. 3 Michigan, finishing with 10 stops. He made nine tackles against Wisconsin in his final game of the season to move into 15th place in school history with 245 career tackles.
2021 (Sophomore)
Reimer started all 12 games in 2021. He led the team with a career-high 108 tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss, with 1.0 sack, setting career highs in tackles and TFLs. Reimer also ranked second on the team with six pass breakups and intercepted one pass. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Reimer ranked third in the Big Ten and 22nd nationally with his 108 tackles. He was the first Husker to have a 100-tackle season since 2018. On the season, Reimer recorded double-digit tackles in five of 11 games, including four times in nine Big Ten games. Reimer’s performance earned him honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades from the conference coaches and media.
Reimer finished with eight tackles at Illinois, including a half tackle for loss and a forced fumble that resulted in a Husker takeaway. He then made four solo tackles and added a quarterback hurry in the win over Fordham. Reimer had a career game against Buffalo and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance, the first Husker to win that award since 2016. Reimer totaled 16 tackles against Buffalo, then the most by a Husker since 2015. He also intercepted the first pass of his career and returned it to the 1-yard line to set up a Husker touchdown on the next play. Reimer also recorded his first career pass breakup against the Bulls.
At No. 3 Oklahoma, he totaled seven tackles, a half TFL and a quarterback hurry. He made 11 tackles at No. 20 Michigan State, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack. Reimer recorded five tackles with a pass breakup against Northwestern. Reimer posted double-figure tackles for the third time with a 12-tackle performance against No. 9 Michigan that included a seven-yard tackle for loss and a pass breakup. At Minnesota, Reimer recorded four tackles.
Against Purdue, Reimer recorded a career-high 19 tackles, the most ever by a Husker in a Big Ten Conference game and the most by a Husker in any game since Lavonte David had a 19-tackle performance against South Dakota State in 2010. Reimer had his fifth double-figure tackle game of the season against No. 6 Ohio State, totaling 10 tackles and a pass breakup. He ranked second on the team with five tackles at No. 19 Wisconsin and had one of Nebraska’s two tackles for loss in the game.
Reimer finished the season with seven tackles, 1.0 TFL, one pass breakup and a career-high two forced fumbles against No. 17 Iowa. He came up clutch against the Hawkeyes, breaking up a 4th-down pass in the end zone to deny a touchdown, while forcing a fumble that was recovered by Nebraska with Iowa driving inside the Husker 15-yard line.
2020 (Covid Season)
Reimer battled injuries to play in six games with five starts as a sophomore. He posted 40 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, ranking second on the team in sacks and third in TFLs.
Reimer missed the Ohio State game due to injury but returned to make his first career start at Northwestern. Reimer led Nebraska with a then-career-high 10 tackles against the Wildcats, while also setting career highs with 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. Reimer came off the bench to record four tackles in the win over Penn State, including a four-yard sack. He had seven tackles, including one for a two-yard loss, against Illinois.
Reimer led Nebraska with a season-high 12 tackles at Iowa, including 11 solo stops. His 11 solo tackles were the second-most by a Husker in a Big Ten Conference game, trailing only the 14 solo tackles Lavonte David made at Michigan in 2011. Reimer added five tackles, including a half tackle for loss, at Purdue. He made two early tackles against Minnesota before leaving the game in the first quarter with an injury. The injury also kept him out of the season finale at Rutgers.
2019 (Freshman)
Reimer played in 10 games as a true freshman walk-on, totaling 11 tackles, including one tackle for loss. Reimer made his Husker debut on special teams against Colorado, and he recovered a fumble as a member of Nebraska’s kickoff coverage unit. He also saw action on special teams at Illinois and made his debut on defense against No. 5 Ohio State, recording his first three career tackles from his linebacker spot. Reimer made his first career special teams tackle with a stop on kickoff coverage against Indiana. He added tackles on kickoff coverage in back-to-back games against Purdue and No. 15 Wisconsin. Reimer saw extensive action on both special teams and defense at Maryland, recording a season-high four tackles, including his first career TFL. Reimer made his final stop of the season with a tackle on kickoff coverage against Iowa.
Before Nebraska (Lincoln North Star HS)
Reimer was a talented two-way performer at Lincoln North Star, starring for coaches Tony Kobza and Mark Waller. As a senior, Reimer earned Lincoln Journal Star Super-State honors for his work at linebacker, as he posted 74 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and a sack. The captain of the Journal Star’s all-city team, Reimer also added 328 rushing yards and nearly 500 all-purpose yards. Reimer earned honorable-mention all-state recognition for the Navigators as a junior, as he had 397 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, while posting 838 all-purpose yards. He added 40 tackles, six tackles for loss and an interception. Following his career, Reimer was selected to play in the 2019 Nebraska Shrine Bowl. Reimer had scholarship offers from Buffalo, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Northern Iowa and North Dakota.
Personal
Luke was born on May 2, 2000, and is the son of Karen Reimer. He earned his degree in business administration in May of 2023. Reimer has volunteered his time with the Nebraska Football Road Race, the Huskers’ Day of Service and local hospital visits.
