After Nebraska
Kramer served as AustinCollege’s head football coach from 1973 to 1982 and led the Kangaroos to the NAIA Division II National Championship in 1981. In 2003 Kramer became only the seventh recipient of the Coach Joe Spencer award, which honors meritorious service and lifetime achievement in coaching.
Kramer spent 36 years in coaching before his retirement in 1997.
Coach started his coaching career at McCookJunior College in 1996 and stayed there until 1970. Kramer then coaches at Southern Oregon from 1970 to 1972 before moving on to AustinCollege for nine years. Kramer next moved to EmporiaState and then ended his coaching career as an assistant at KansasState
At Nebraska
Kramer was one of the leaders in the Husker forward wall which did an outstanding job of pass protection for quarterback Bobby Churchich, who was able to break Dennis Claridge’s season passing mark. A tough, rugged competitor, Larry gave the Huskers experience and leadership at the tackle spot, where gradation erased three top performers (Lloyd Voss, Bob Jones, and Monte Kiffin).
Kramer was part of 1963’s Fearsome Foursome that was made up of Kramer, Bob Brown, Lloyd Voss, and John Kirby. The 1963 squad led the nation in rushing and propelled Kramer to pre-season All-America status, and got him drafted by the Baltimore Colts before his senior year.
Before Nebraska (Austin Central)
Earned two letters in football under Coach Art Hass, also earned three letters in baseball and one in wrestling.
Personal
Teachers College. While at Nebraska Kramer worked at the Lincoln Police Department and was a bouncer at the Post No. 3 American Legion Club.
