Tight end Jake Long was a regular contributor at tight end for four seasons, and completed his senior year with the Huskers in 2013. Long was one of several Husker offensive players who battled injuries throughout the 2013 season, as Long was slowed by injury in fall camp, then missed three games at midseason.

Long provided leadership to a young group of tight ends in 2013, as the four-man rotation at the spot included three freshmen. He caught eight passes on the year, and his blocking helped Nebraska rank among the Big Ten’s top rushing teams.

Originally a walk-on, Long earned a scholarship for his senior season. He also continued to excel in the classroom during his senior year. Long earned second-team Academic All-America honors, while his twin brother, Spencer, was a first-team selection. The Long brothers became just the third set of brothers in school history to both earn academic All-America accolades and the first to do it in the same season.

Long earned his degree in biological sciences/pre-medicine in December and is one of 19 seniors playing the bowl game as a graduate.

2013 (Senior)
Long played in 10 games with nine starts, while battling through injuries. Long had eight catches for 121 yards, an average of better than 15 yards per catch. Long had a career-long 26-yard catch against Wyoming in the opener. Long had single catches in six games, and finished the year with season highs of two receptions and 28 receiving yards against Iowa in the regular-season finale.

2012 (Junior)
Long played in all 14 games and earned starts in the first meeting with Wisconsin and against Penn State. Long had six receptions for 55 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Martinez in the season opener against Southern Miss. He had three catches for 41 yards against the Golden Eagles and added single receptions against Arkansas State, Idaho State and Michigan State. Long’s blocking also helped Nebraska lead the Big Ten in rushing offense and total offense.

2011 (Sophomore)
Long played in all 13 games and made starts against Minnesota and Northwestern. Long did not have a reception, but his blocking helped junior running back Rex Burkhead rush for 1,357 yards and earn All-Big Ten honors. Long's role increased dramatically in the final three regular-season games with Cotton sidelined by injury.

2010 (Redshirt Freshman)
Long appeared in NU wins over Western Kentucky, Kansas State and Colorado. He made a 17-yard catch from Zac Lee against the Buffaloes.

2009 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Long redshirted in his first year at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Elkhorn HS)
Long joined the Nebraska program after putting up impressive numbers for Elkhorn High School and Coach Mark Wortman. Long played both ways for the 7-3 Antlers in 2008, and was a second-team All-Nebraska pick as a tight end by the Omaha World-Herald, while the Lincoln Journal Star placed him on its second-team Super State squad as a defensive lineman. Long earned honorable-mention all-state honors from the World-Herald during his junior season. He also played for the Antlers' 2008 state championship baseball team.

Personal
Jake is the son of Doug and Ann Long, and was born on Nov. 8, 1990. A biological sciences major, Long was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2011-12 and 2012-13. He was also a four-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. Long has volunteered time with local hospital and school visits.
