2022 (Redshirt Freshman)
Gabe Ervin Jr. returned from a season-ending injury in 2021 to play in eight games in 2022. He rushed for 94 yards on 20 carries and had an eight-yard reception. Ervin had his first carry of the season against North Dakota and had a two-yard rush against Georgia Southern. Ervin led Nebraska with a career-high 60 rushing yards against No. 6 Oklahoma. He then had six carries for 21 yards against Indiana. Ervin missed the next four games due to injury before returning with two carries for six yards at No. 3 Michigan. He had a four-yard carry the next week against Wisconsin. Ervin recorded his only reception of the season with an eight-yard catch at Iowa, and he also had two carries for two yards against the Hawkeyes.
2021 (Redshirt)
Ervin started two of Nebraska's first four games at running back in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury at No. 3 Oklahoma. Ervin rushed 37 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns in his abbreviated 2021 season. He started at Illinois, becoming the first true freshman running back to start a season opener in the modern era of Nebraska football. Ervin had 12 carries for 33 yards in his collegiate debut, and he added six carries for 17 yards the next week against Fordham. Ervin carried the ball 10 times for 56 yards against Buffalo, scoring the first two rushing touchdowns of his career. At No. 3 Oklahoma, Ervin rushed nine times for 18 yards before leaving the game with his injury.
Before Nebraska (Buford HS)
Ervin was a standout running back from Buford High School in Georgia. He was one of two Husker signees from Buford, along with Malik Williams. Ervin was a 2020 Sports Illustrated All-America candidate. He enrolled at Nebraska in January.
Ervin helped Buford to the Class 6A state championship, winning a state title in Georgia's second-largest class one season after he helped the Wolves to a Class 5A state championship. Ervin ran for more than 1,000 yards as a senior, including 40 carries for 333 yards and five touchdowns in the state playoffs. For his efforts as a senior, Ervin was named a first-team all-state selection by Georgia High School Football Daily. As a junior, Ervin rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging nearly seven yards per carry and helping the Wolves to a state title in Georgia’s third-largest class.
Ervin had more than two dozen scholarship offers, choosing Nebraska over Arizona State, Duke, Georgia and Michigan State, among others. He was ranked among the top 25 running backs in the nation by Rivals.

Gabe is the son of Allen and Varhonda Ervin, and he was born on April 3, 2003. He is majoring in business administration.
