2014 Outlook
Redshirt freshman Courtney Love is a key part of a deep and talented group of linebackers that could be a strength for the 2014 defense. The 6-1, 240-pound Love redshirted last fall after joining the Nebraska program early in January of 2013. Love has shown the versatility to play multiple linebacker positions and this spring spent time playing both inside and outside.

Love has also distinguished himself as a community leader while he has been in Lincoln. Love earned a spot on both the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team and Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for his extensive outreach work. Love hails from Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, the same school that Husker Head Coach Bo Pelini attended.

2013 (Redshirt)
Love sat out his first season as a redshirt. He was a standout on the practice field and earned Scout Team Defensive MVP honors.

Before Nebraska (Cardinal Mooney HS)
A two-time All-Ohio selection, Love posted impressive numbers for Coach P.J. Fecko as a senior, registering 110 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and nine sacks. Love also forced four fumbles and had two pass breakups, despite missing one game because of injury. Love was honored for his efforts as a first-team Division III All-Ohio selection for the second straight year.

During his junior season, Love played a key role in Cardinal Mooney winning the Division III state title. Love recorded 130 tackles, including seven sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. In the state title game victory over Springfield Shawnee, Love was Mooney’s leading tackler. His play for the Cardinals in 2011 earned Love first-team All-Ohio honors and Division III Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Year recognition.

Love was regarded as one of the nation’s top 30 linebackers by multiple recruiting services and was listed among the top 30 overall prospects in the state of Ohio. He chose Nebraska over dozens of offers from around the country, including Florida State, Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Illinois and Indiana to name a few.
