A solid distance performer as a prep runner, Tom Johnson hopes to make an immediate contribution in his first season of collegiate cross country competition.  Johnson is a graduate of Seattle O’Dea, the alma mater of former Cornhusker and world-record holder Charlie Green.


High School

Tom competed two years in the Washington Class 3A state cross country championships, finishing 22nd as a senior and 36th as a junior. On the track he qualified for the 2006 Class 3A state meet as a senior in the 800, but did not advance to the finals. Johnson ran his personal best in the 1600-meter run (4:21.86) at the 2005 Shoreline Invitational in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Seattle.

 

His high school coach was Andy Slatt, the son of Charlie Green’s track coach when he was attended O’Dea. Johnson was a member of the National Honor Society in high school.

 

Personal

The son of Rich and Liane Johnson, Tom was born on October 23, 1987. Johnson has two brothers, Shawn (22) and Michael (26), and two sisters, Shannon (20) and Megan (24). Megan was an All-American distance runner at Notre Dame. Tom is an electrical engineering major at Nebraska.
