Outlook
After a rough season as a result of injury in 2002, Michele (Steube) Witter strives to get into racing shape for the 2003 season. Sitting out the track season again because of injury, Witter has a lot of work ahead of her.
"Michele is an athlete who has suffered from lack of consistent training due to injuries", Head Coach Jay Dirksen said. "She's had a number of things wrong. It's been difficult for her to get a sustained period of training. We're hoping that toward the end of the season, she will be ready to race again."

In her second year on the team, Witter was not able to get back to her solid form from a year ealier. Competing in six meets throughout the season, Witter rallied for a 79th-place finish at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo., finishing fifth for the Huskers.
Witter was sidelined during the indoor and outdoor track season because of injuries.

She excelled on the cross country course for York, finishing fifth in Class B at the 1996 state meet, followed by a third-place finish in 1997, when she finished behind current Husker teammates Kathryn Handrup and Anne Shadle.
