2018: Zack Engelken saw limited time on the mound, making eight appearances out of the bullpen for 11.2 innings • Compiled a 1.54 ERA with 11 strikeouts and five walks, as opposing batters hit .205 against him • Final appearance was on April 1 when he pitched 0.2 inning at Ohio State • Came out of the bullpen for 1.0 scoreless inning against Minnesota on March 25 • Allowed only one hit in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief against Northwestern State on March 18 • Struck out three batters in 1.0 inning against Northern Colorado on March 14 • Recorded three strikeouts in 1.2 no-hit scoreless innings of relief in the second game of a doubleheader against Cal Poly on March 10 • Tossed 3.0 scoreless innings and only allowed two hits out of the bullpen at Wichita State on March 3 • Threw 1.2 no-hit scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts against Oregon State in his first appearance since April 23, 2016
2017: Engelken did not make any appearances for the Huskers in 2017.
2016: Engelken made nine appearances in 2016, including five starts • Made weekend starts against College of Charleston, Tulane and Northwestern • Finished the year with 20 strikeouts and an 8.53 ERA over 19.0 innings • Tied a career high with five strikeouts in just 2.0 innings of relief against Northern Colorado on March 8 • Matched a career high with a 4.1-inning outing at Indiana State on March 22 • Registered at least one strikeout in all nine appearances.
2015: Engelken made five appearances as a true freshman in 2015, including four starts • Finished the year with a 1-0 record and a 4.50 ERA over 12.0 innings with 10 strikeouts • Made his debut and earned his first career win on Feb. 21 against BYU with 2.2 innings of one-hit scoreless relief • Tossed 3.1 innings in his first career start against Northern Colorado on March 11 • Went a season-high 4.1 innings and struck out three batters against Indiana State on March 18.
Before Nebraska: A product of Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, Kan., Engelken helped the Jaguars to four straight appearances at the Kansas 6A state tournament, including a state title in 2013, as well as runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012 under Bill McDonald • Ranked as the No. 321 senior in the country and the fifth-best player in Kansas by Perfect Game • Was a Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American in 2014 • Posted a 7-1 record in 2013 with 63 strikeouts in 41 innings of work • Was 5-0 as a junior in 2013 with 69 strikeouts and a 1.03 ERA in 47 innings • Earned Kansas 6A Pitcher-of-the-Year honors in 2013 and 2014, while also being named Kansas All-Class Pitcher of the Year in 2013 • Pitched at both the 2013 PG WWBA 17U National Championships and the 18U National Championships, both in Marietta, Ga. • Picked up the win at the 2012 PG WWBA Underclass World Championships in Ft. Myers, Fla., for Marucci Elite with 5.0 shutout innings • Competed at the 2013 Metropolitan Baseball Classic at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., for the St. Louis Mets.
