2012 Outlook: Chris Williams is looking to get onto the mound more in 2012 after making just nine appearances over his first two seasons at Nebraska • Has a good slider and has improved the velocity on his fastball.

“Chris hasn’t reached his potential,” Head Coach Darin Erstad said. “We’ll use Chris out of the bullpen as a right-handed specialist. He’s a guy we know we can bring in at any point of the game and get a right-handed batter out.”

2011: Williams saw action in two games in 2011 • Entered NU’s game against UCLA on March 5 against UCLA in the bottom of the seventh with two on and two outs • Got out of the inning when catcher Patric Tolentino threw out UCLA’s Steve Rodriguez at second base on a double steal • Relieved Chase Adams in the ninth inning against Northern Colorado on March 23 • Got all three outs, including an inning-ending double play, while also giving up three hits.

2010: Williams helped stabilize the back of the Husker bullpen, going 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA despite missing a majority of the season with an elbow injury • Turned in the best performance of his career, striking out four over 2.2 innings of one-hit relief for a win against Texas Tech on May 22 • Threw a career-long 3.0 innings at Missouri on May 15, fanning three but allowing two earned runs on two hits • Pitched a shutout inning of relief against Southeast Missouri State on May 9 • Turned in a strong outing against Texas A&M on April 30 with two perfect innings, including a pair of strikeouts • Earned a hold against Baylor on April 24, tossing a scoreless 0.1 inning as he entered in the sixth with NU ahead 3-2 and got the Huskers out of the inning • Struggled with his control against Creighton on April 20, walking three in taking the loss against the Bluejays • Made his Husker debut against Wichita State on April 13, tossing a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout.

Before Nebraska: Williams became one of the best pitchers in the state in leading Coach Bob Greco’s Omaha Westside High School squad to a 34-4 record and a Class A state title in 2009 • Captained the Omaha World-Herald’s all-state team and was a first-team all-state pick by both the World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star • Compiled a 9-1 record with a 1.63 ERA, fanning 75 over 68.2 innings • Was 2-0 with a pair of complete games in the 2009 state tournament, including an eight strikeout performance over eight innings in a win over Creighton Prep • Was one of the best hitters in the state as well, batting .405 with five homers and 43 RBIs in 2009 •  Shined in American Legion play as a senior, going 10-3 with a 2.22 ERA while striking out 103 over 78.2 innings while also hitting .405 with five homers and 43 RBIs to lead his team to a sweep of state titles in 2009 • Tossed a no-hitter against Bismarck (N.D.) during American Legion action • Lettered three times in baseball, garnering honorable-mention all-state accolades as a junior • Selected to the WHS Honor Roll on two occasions, including his senior campaign.
