2007: Junior Steve Edlefsen (pronounced ED-LUF-sin) made the switch from infielder to relief pitcher in 2007 •  Appeared in 23 games as a pitcher and threw 26.1 innings on the season • Ended the year with a 4.10 ERA and a 0-1 record while fanning 25 batters • His .226 batting average for opposing hitters ranked him third on the team • Started nine games and played in 13 as an infielder • Recorded six hits on the season to go with four RBIs and five runs scored.

2006: Edlefsen platooned with Jake Mort at third base, hitting .260 with a homer and seven RBIs in 31 contests • Made 16 starts at third base, while also drawing starting nods at shortstop, second base and designated hitter • Rebounded from a slow start to hit .361 (13-for-36) with four RBIs and seven runs scored over his last 16 games after hitting just .162 in his first 15 contests • Totaled four multi-hit performances on the year, including a school-record six-hit effort in NU’s 13-inning win over Iowa on April 11 • Went 6-for-8 against the Hawkeyes, scoring five times and driving in a pair of runs • Became the first Husker to total six hits in a game since John Cole in 1999 • Started against San Francisco in the NCAA Regional, going 1-for-2 against the Dons • Preserved NU’s 6-4 win over Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament by making a diving stab of a liner to begin an unassisted double play in the seventh inning • Finished Big 12 play with a .313 average and five RBIs in 11 contests • Played in the final two games of the Texas Tech series, delivering a pinch-hit RBI single on April 29 • Made two appearances in the series against Texas A&M, going 2-for-3 with an RBI on April 15 • Drove in a pair of runs in NU’s 5-4 win at Kansas State on April 1 • Went 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch against Kansas on March 25, delivering an RBI double off KU closer Don Czyz • Was 2-for-6 with a stolen base in NU’s 12-inning win over Richmond on Feb. 19 • Had a 2-for-3 effort in his Husker debut against Charleston Southern on Feb. 16 • Started at shortstop for Duluth over the summer in the wood bat Northern League, hitting .236 with a homer, six RBIs and seven stolen bases • Made six relief appearances, allowing two runs on five hits while fanning eight in 8.1 innings of work.

Barton County CC/Jefferson High School: Edlefsen attended Barton County (Kan.) Community College for two seasons, but missed all of the 2005 season after Tommy John surgery • Selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 41st round of the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft • Played for Coach Mike Warren and former Husker Jay Sirianni at Barton County CC, hitting .341 with a homer, 21 RBIs and 30 runs scored as a freshman • Played for coach Jim Gess at Bloomington Jefferson High School, hitting .392 with five homers and 37 RBIs as a senior to garner all-state honors • Received state tournament MVP honors in leading his team to a state runner-up finish in American Legion ball • Chose Nebraska over Auburn, Louisiana-Lafayette, St. John’s and Alabama.
