2004: Gerch spent the fall of 2003 at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Nebraska for the start of the spring semester and subsequently redshirted.
Pius X High School: Gerch enjoyed a stellar career playing for Coach Jim Hansen at Lincoln Pius X High School ? Lettered in baseball for three seasons and finished his career by holding 21 school marks ? Named first-team All-Nebraska by both the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star in 2003, batting .400 with 10 doubles, 16 RBIs and a .733 slugging percentage ? Tabbed a second-team all-state pick as a utility player during his junior season, hitting .471 with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, 26 runs batted in and six steals ? Improved those numbers during American Legion play, hitting .500 (85-170) with 24 doubles, three triples, nine homers, 54 runs scored and 53 RBIs.
