1999: Senior Season
Erik Mumm saw most of his playing time in the Nebraska outfield for the 1999 season, appearing in 45 games with 18 starts. He hit .365 for the season and compiled 27 hits in his senior campaign. Over half of Mumm's hits came against Big 12 opponents, giving him a .412 average in conference play, second highest on the team. He tallied seven multi-hit games and had a four-game hitting streak at one point during the season. A star in the classroom, Mumm earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the Huskers, while claiming first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the third consecutive season.
1998: Junior Season
Mumm worked his way into the lineup and spent time as the Huskers' starting left fielder in 1998. Mumm started 22 games, 21 in left field and one in center field, while playing in 34 contests. He had four multiple-hit games, including a three-hit effort in NU's 13-2 win over Oklahoma on April 17. He had seven RBIs on the year, with two coming against the Sooners on April 19. A speedy outfielder, Mumm had two errors in 53 chances. He was scond on the team in stolen bases with five in six attempts. A standout in the classroom, Mumm earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors, as well as being named first-team academic All-Big 12 with a 3.8 grade-point average.
1997: Sophomore Season
Mumm started 16 games and played in 34 overall. He had 12 hits, walked 12 times and scored 20 runs for NU. Four of his eight RBIs came in conference play. Mumm started 12 conference contests and had eight runs scored, six walks and five hits. He scored two runs three times, against Iowa State, Peru State and New Mexico and had a career-best three runs scored against Texas on May 4. He had two hits in a game three times, against Texas (twice) and against Peru State. He also had a career-high two RBIs against Peru State. Off the field, he earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors, as well as being tabbed a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection.
1996: Freshman Season
Mumm appeared in 12 games, going hitless in four at bats. He was perfect in the field, with three putouts.
Previous:
Mumm played shortstop and outfield for head coach Steve Spongberg with the Kearney Legion team. Mumm hit .391 with three home runs, 63 runs scored and 30 runs batted in while stealing 41 bases in his final season. The team earned a trip to the state semifinals in both 1994 and 1995. Mumm set the Kearney Legion record for career stolen bases and was named to the Cornhusker West League All-Star team his final year. He was also named the Kearney Hub Athlete of the Year following his senior season. He was all-region in football and basketball as a senior, and was the region's player of the year in basketball as a junior. He scored 44 points in one basketball game, the Kearney High record. Mumm was a high school teammate of 1998 Nebraska football reserve quarterback Monte Christo.
