2014: Quinn McGill played in 11 games as a true freshman and made two starts, including one at catcher • Was 2-for-12 on the year, with both hits going for extra bases • Pinch ran and scored a run in the ninth inning of NU’s 7-6 comeback victory over Ohio State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on May 21 • Was 0-1 with a walk, HBP and sacrifice bunt in a sweep-clinching 8-4 win over Penn State on May 4 • Entered NU’s game against Penn State on May 3 and played catcher following an injury to Taylor Fish, then made his first career start at catcher the following day • Hit a pinch-hit two-RBI double in a 14-5 win over Kansas State, his first career multi-RBI game • Entered as a pinch-run in the bottom of the ninth and scored a run in a 4-3 comeback win over Ohio State on April 5 • Made the most of this first career hit, as it was a RBI triple at Kansas State on March 26 • Made his first career start at The Citadel on March 2, put the ball in play every at-bat, but went 0-for-4 • Pinch hit against Washington on Feb. 22, flew out to left field • Made his Husker debut as a pinch hitter against No. 2 Oregon State in the bottom of the eighth on Feb. 15 • Stayed in the game and played catcher in the ninth inning.
Before Nebraska: McGill joined the Huskers from Wahoo High School, where he played for Dustin Nilius • First player from Wahoo, Neb., to join the Huskers since Matt Wagner was a freshman on NU’s 2005 College World Series team • Hit .472 as a senior with seven doubles, five triples and a state-high 28 stolen bases • No other player in the state stole more than 18 bases • Struck out just three times during his senior season • Was a career .470 hitter with 15 doubles and 55 stolen bases • Led the Warriors to the No. 4 seed at the 2013 Class B State Tournament • One of 18 players in the state named to the 2013 Lincoln Journal Star Super-State team • All-Nebraska pick by the Omaha-World Herald in 2013 • Was a first-team Class B selection by both the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star in 2012 after hitting .350 on the season • Led the Warriors to an 18-8 record and the No. 5 seed at the 2012 state tournament • Played American Legion baseball for Wahoo State Bank • Hit .438 with seven home runs, 35 RBIs, 29 runs scored and 54 stolen bases in 2012 • Along with excelling on the diamond, earned three letters in basketball and one in football.
