Before Nebraska: Petersen played baseball at Lincoln Southwest under head coach Mitch Vernon • Played summer ball with Nebraska Prospects under head coach Rollie Kenny • Was an all-state selection while helping Lincoln Southwest to district title in senior season. • Set school record for stolen bases in a single-season. • Lettered in baseball and basketball and earned academic all-state distinction as a junior. • As a sophomore, hit .319 with nine extra-base hits, 18 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
