2016: Max Knutson developed into a reliable midweek starter for the Huskers late in the season and was selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles • Was 3-1 on the year with a 4.38 ERA over 37.0 innings • Made 17 appearances, including five starts, and struck out 34 while holding opponents to a .250 batting average • Threw just 3.0 innings during Big Ten play • Moved to the role of midweek starter in mid-April and his final four appearances were starts • After giving up 13 earned runs over his first 14.0 innings of the year, allowed just five earned runs over 23.0 innings in his final four starts • Picked up his first win of the season against Kansas at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City • Gave up one run on four hits over 5.1 innings and struck out five • Went a career-high 8.0 innings against Omaha on May 11 • Allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out five • Earned the win in his final three starts of the season, including a victory at Creighton on May 17.

2015: Knutson made 10 appearances in 2015, including two starts, and finished the year with a 1-1 record and a 2.33 ERA over 19.1 innings • Was in NU’s weekend rotation the first two weeks of the year before moving to the bullpen • Lasted 2.0 innings in his first start of the year at UNLV, gave up two runs on two hits and three walks • Gave up one run over 3.1 innings the following week in a no decision against BYU • Moved to the bullpen and tossed 9.0 straight scoreless innings over four appearances, including a career-high four strikeouts over four innings against Cal State Fullerton on March 25 • After giving up two earned runs at Maryland on April 4, he didn’t give up a run in 4.2 innings over his final three appearances of the season, including three strikeouts in 3.0 innings at No. 2 Illinois on May 15.

2014: Knutson made six appearances out of the bullpen for the Huskers as a freshman, throwing 5.1 innings • Ended the year with a 5.06 ERA and three strikeouts • Scored a run as a pinch runner in Nebraska’s 6-1 win over Michigan at the Big Ten Tournament on May 24 • Pinch ran at Michigan on April 26 • Threw a scoreless ninth inning of relief in a 14-5 win over Kansas State on April 15 • Made his Husker debut in the ninth inning against No. 2 Oregon State on Feb. 15 at the Husker Classic in Tempe, Ariz. • Threw a scoreless inning of relief, gave up one hit and only needed seven pitches to retire the Beavers.

Before Nebraska: A native of Arden Hills, Minn., Knutson joined the Huskers after a stellar career at Mounds View High School under Jon Nuss • Ranked as the third-best overall recruit and the No. 1 left-handed pitcher in the state of Minnesota by Perfect Game • Named 2013 Pioneer Press Player of the Year and StarTribune Co-Player of the Year • Finalist for the 2013 Minnesota Play Ball! Mr. Baseball Award and Gatorade Player of the Year • Led the Mustangs to their first-ever state title in 2013 with an 8-0 win over Rocori • Threw a complete-game shutout in the AAA state title game at Target Field, giving up just four hits and striking out nine • Was Mounds View’s fifth appearance at the state tournament and its first since 2000 when they placed third • Posted a 6-1 record in 2013 with a 0.68 ERA • Notched 76 strikeouts in 62 innings of work, while also producing a .310 batting average • Earned first-team All-Central Region honors from Rawlings in 2013 after being named a second-team Underclass All-American in 2012 • Played legion ball for Tri-City Legion under Steve Grasley • Was named district MVP in 2012 and led the team to a 16-0 record in 2013 • Versatile athlete who was an all-conference selection in football and a two-time letterwinner in hockey.
