2006 Outlook: Matt Wagner will look for an increased role after redshirting in his first season as a Husker ? Made significant progress during his year and a half in the Husker program ? Has the physical tools to play at the college level and great size for a corner infielder at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds ? Has worked extensively on retooling his swing to become more successful at the collegiate level ? Bishop Neumann High School: Wagner was a multi-sport athlete who spent his summers playing baseball, as his school did not have a program ? Played for coaches Dave Bingham, Shane Wedd and Ryan Schmidt with the Kansas City Sluggers in 2004, hitting .364 with one homer, 33 RBIs and 29 runs scored ? Spent the previous three years playing American Legion baseball, batting .377 with four homers, 15 doubles, 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored in helping his team to a 26-24 record and a district runner-up finish ? Was a two-way performer who also went 6-3 with five saves and a 2.45 ERA, striking out 66 in 60 innings and holding foes to a .177 average ? Attended NU’s Stars of Tomorrow Camp for two years ? Played football and basketball at Bishop Neumann, lettering five times for teams that combined to win three C-1 state titles (two in football and one in basketball) and one runner-up finish ? Named the honorary captain of the Lincoln Journal Star’s Class C-1 football team after earning unanimous first-team all-state honors at linebacker ?
