2018: Luis Alvarado (pronounced Alv-uh-rod-oh) was drafted in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Angels • Named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball (second team) and the NCBWA (third team) in addition to making the NCBWA Preseason Stopper-of-the-Year Watch List • Led the 2018 Husker pitching staff in strikeouts (65), opposing batting average (.256), innings pitched (70.0) and games started (14), spending most of the season as the team’s Friday night starter • Ranked second on the team in ERA (4.89) • Went a career-high 8.0 innings and allowed only one run on two hits with three strikeouts against Nevada on April 28 • Recorded six strikeouts in 5.2 innings at Rutgers on April 20, while allowing three runs on four hits • Struck out five Hawkeyes in 3.1 innings in the first game of a doubleheader against Iowa on April 13 • Pitched 4.0 innings at Michigan State on April 7 and recorded five strikeouts, while allowing five runs (zero earned runs) • Earned the win at Ohio State on March 30, striking out five batters and allowed three runs in 7.2 innings • Allowed four runs in 5.0 innings while recording three strikeouts in the Big Ten opener against Minnesota on March 23 • Went 5.0 innings against Northwestern State on March 17 and gave up one run, while recording three strikeouts and no walks • Recorded eight strikeouts and allowed only one walk in 7.0 scoreless innings to earn the win against Cal Poly on March 9 and was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for his performance • Struck out six batters in 5.2 innings against Wichita State on March 2, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks • Made his first appearance at the plate on Feb. 25 against Utah, going 2-for-5 as the starting first baseman • Went 6.0 innings in his start against Utah on Feb. 23, earning five strikeouts and gave up two runs • Struck out a career-high nine batters in 4.2 innings, giving up only one run on four hits against UC Riverside in his first career start on the mound on Feb. 16.

2017: Alvarado was drafted in the 13th round by the Seattle Mariners, but decided to return for his senior season at Nebraska • Saw time in the outfield as well as on the mound as the Huskers’ co-closer with Chad Luensmann • Tied for the most starts on the team with Scott Schreiber (57), 41 of which were in left field and 16 in center field • Batted .283 and had the fourth-most hits on the team (64) • Ranked third on the team in runs scored (39) • Had 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBIs • Went a perfect 5-for-5 stealing bases • Fielding percentage of .991 ranked third on the team • Made 16 relief appearances on the mound, earning a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings • Led the Huskers with 10 saves, which tied for the seventh-most single-season saves in school history • Had 15 strikeouts, while walking seven batters • His longest relief appearance was 1.1 innings on May 19 at Penn State, when he earned the save • Had 14 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-5 performance against Iowa on April 14 • Went 8-for-12 during the Iowa series with two doubles and four runs, while earning a save in NU’s win on April 16 • Went 3-for-3 with two runs against Creighton on April 4.

2016: Alvarado saw time in the infield and the outfield as a sophomore, and became NU’s everyday left fielder during the second half of the season • Played in 53 of NU’s 59 games, including 44 starts • Hit .251 (45-for-179) with five doubles, two home runs and 14 RBIs • Scored 28 runs and stole four bases in six attempts • Ranked fifth on the team with 15 multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit games • Went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in the season-opening win at College of Charleston • Best series of the year came during the midweek at Indiana State, where he went 5-for-9 with four runs scored in a pair of wins over the Sycamores.

2015: Alvarado played in 35 games as a true freshman, including 25 starts • Earned Big Ten All-Freshman honors after hitting .303 (27-for-89) with six doubles, one home run and 11 RBIs • Was even better during Big Ten play with a .344 (11-for-32) average • Ended the year on a nine-game hitting streak • Hit .371 (13-for-35) during the streak and raised his season average 40 points • Produced eight multi-hit games on the year, including four in his final nine contests • Earned Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week honors on May 4 after starting three of NU’s four games the previous week, posting a .500 (5-for-10) batting average • Slugged a pair of doubles at Illinois on May 14 and hit his first career home run the following night.

Before Nebraska: Alvarado was a late addition to Nebraska’s signing class, as he signed a letter of intent in April of 2014 • The Salinas, Puerto Rico, native was picked in the 33rd round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Red Sox, but turned down professional baseball to become a Husker • Tabbed as a 2014 Canada/Puerto Rico first-team all-region pick by Perfect Game and a second-team underclass All-American in 2013 by Perfect Game • Ranked as the No. 3 high school player in Puerto Rico and the No. 165 high school recruit overall by Perfect Game • Attended Montverde Academy in Florida in 2013, before returning to Puerto Rico for his senior season • Attended the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and was coached by Hector Stewart • Played club baseball for FTB Puerto Rico under George Gonzalez.

Personal: Born on Jan. 5, 1997 • Son of Marlene Bermudez • Earned his bachelor's degree as a hospitality, restaurant and tourism management major in December of 2018.
