2007 Outlook: Right-hander Drew Schwab was slowed by injuries for much of the 2006 season, but is ready to make a significant contribution to the Husker staff this season ? Showed his ability in his final appearance of the spring, throwing two shutout innings against Nebraska-Kearney in his first outing since Feb. 24 ? Continued that progress in the summer, not allowing a run over 12.2 innings ? Throws four pitches for strikes and has a fastball in the low 90s ? Is being trained in a dual role, where he could work out of the bullpen in middle or long relief or as a midweek starter.

2006: Schwab struggled with an injury early in the season and made just three appearances ? Went 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA, allowing two hits in 2.2 innings ? Enjoyed his best outing against Nebraska-Kearney on April 19, tossing two innings of one-hit relief against the Lopers ? Also made appearances against Richmond on Feb. 19 and Texas State on Feb. 24 ? Pitched for the Parkville Sluggers for Coach Andy Powers during the summer and did not allow a run in six appearances, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in 12.2 innings.

2005: Redshirted in 2005, before pitching for the Parkville (Mo.) Sluggers of the M.I.N.K. league over the summer.

Westside High School: Schwab earned first-team All-Nebraska accolades in each of his final two years at Omaha Westside for Coach Bob Greco ? Named first-team All-Midwest Region by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association in 2004 ? Unanimous first-team All-Nebraska honoree from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star,  going 7-1 with a 1.70 ERA, striking out 58 in 53.2 innings ? Led Westside to a 32-3 record, a state title and a No. 10 national ranking in 2003, winning the state title game over Millard West ? Went 9-1 with 60 strikeouts and a 1.59 ERA as a junior ? Paced all pitchers in the state in wins and was in the top 10 in strikeouts and ERA ? Lettered four times in baseball, while also hitting .415 with 34 RBIs as a senior ? Named to the academic all-state team in each of his final two years at Omaha Westside, as he carried a 3.9 GPA ? Also looked at Notre Dame, Creighton, Kansas State and Northern Iowa before choosing to become a Husker.
