2006 Outlook: After a redshirt year, infielder Casey Klapperich will look to break into the Huskers’ infield rotation this spring ? Former three-time all-state pick from Rapid City, S.D., who was a career .451 hitter in American Legion ball ? Enjoyed a solid fall, as he tied for the team high in RBIs during the Red/White Series ? Is a contact hitter who has a good presence at the plate and is a fundamentally sound player ? Selfless player who always gives maximum effort on the diamond.

2005: Redshirted ? Put together a solid summer for Duluth in the Northwoods League, hitting .245 with a wood bat, while adding 11 RBIs and 16 runs in 40 contests.

Central High School: Klapperich played American Legion baseball all four years of high school for Coach Dave Ploof at Post 22 ? Earned first-team all-state recognition in each of his final two seasons of American Legion ball, finishing his career with a program-record .451 batting average ? Garnered all-state recognition as a shortstop in 2004, batting .434 with 12 doubles, six triples and 51 RBIs in 74 games ? Swiped 26 of 29 bases ? Broke a program record in 2003 with a .496 average - shattering the previous mark of .488, which stood since 1975 ? Also added three homers, 82 RBIs, 76 runs, 22 doubles and 10 triples in 82 contests ? Helped his team to a third-place finish at the 2002 American Legion World Series, as he hit .412 during his sophomore campaign ? Played football for one season at Central, earning honorable-mention all-conference honors during his junior season ? Looked at Arizona State, Northern Iowa and Midland Lutheran before choosing Nebraska.
