Trey Palmer made a major impact in his lone season at Nebraska in 2022, as he declared for the NFL Draft following the season. He played in every game with 11 starts and caught 71 passes for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns. His 1,043 receiving yards were a Nebraska record, while Palmer's 71 receptions were the most by a wide receiver in program history and ranked second overall in NU history. Palmer's nine touchdown receptions also ranked fifth in school history, and his three 100-yard receiving games ranked 10th. For his performance, Palmer was recognized as a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the league media and a third-team pick by the conference coaches. Palmer was also added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list as a midseason candidate.
Palmer ranked in the top 15 nationally during the regular season in receiving yards (1,043) and receiving touchdowns (9). For the entire season, Palmer ranked 19th nationally in receiving touchdowns, 21st in receiving yards per game (86.9), 24th in receiving yards and 28th in receptions per game (5.9). Palmer also led the nation with three catches of 70 yards or longer and ranked second with four catches of 60 yards or longer.
Palmer caught a then-career-high eight passes for 68 yards in his Husker against Northwestern. He then made four receptions for 82 yards the next week against North Dakota, including a 35-yard grab. Against Georgia Southern, Palmer caught six passes for 81 yards. Palmer set a career highs with 10 catches as part of a 92-yard effort against No. 6 Oklahoma that included a 32-yard touchdown catch. Palmer posted his first career 100-yard receiving game against Indiana, catching eight passes for 157 yards. He had a 71-yard touchdown reception, and Palmer also returned three punts for 37 yards to finish with a career-high 194 all-purpose yards. At Rutgers, Palmer caught four passes for 64 yards, including the game-winning 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He eclipsed 1,000 career receiving yards against the Scarlet Knights.
Palmer had a record-breaking game at Purdue. He caught seven passes for 237 yards and a career-high two touchdowns. His 237 receiving yards were a school record and marked only the third 200-yard receiving game in Nebraska history. One of Palmer's two touchdowns was a 72-yard reception that marked the longest catch of his career and his fourth consecutive game with a touchdown reception. Palmer also had a career-long 60-yard rush at Purdue. He finished with 297 all-purpose yards on only eight offensive touches - averaging 37.1 yards per play - posting the fifth-most all-purpose yards in a game in Husker history and the most since 2014. According to Sports Reference, Palmer was the first player this century (since 2000) to have 225 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in the same game, and he was only the fourth player to have 200 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in the same game. He was limited to one catch against No. 17 Illinois - which entered the game with the nation's No. 1 pass defense - as Nebraska struggled after starting quarterback Casey Thompson was knocked out of the game in the first half. Thompson also missed the Minnesota game, when Palmer caught five passes for 37 yards. With Thompson still out, Palmer caught five passes at No. 3 Michigan but was limited to 12 yards. Thompson returned against Wisconsin, when Palmer caught four passes for 47 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.
In his final game, Palmer caught nine passes for 165 yards at Iowa to set the Nebraska single-season receiving yards record. He caught touchdown passes of 87 and 18 yards against the Hawkeyes, with the 87-yard touchdown pass marking the fifth-longest passing play in Nebraska history and the Huskers' longest play from scrimmage since the 2014 Gator Bowl.

Palmer joined Nebraska after playing three seasons at LSU (2019-21). Palmer played in 28 games in his three years at LSU, totaling 41 receptions for 458 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to averaging more than 11.0 yards per reception, Palmer was an electric return man for the Tigers, returning both a punt and kickoff for a touchdown. He had 23 punt returns for 188 yards and one touchdown at LSU with 15 kickoff returns for 394 yards and one touchdown.
In 2021, Palmer caught 30 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns, ranking third on the team in touchdown receptions and fourth in catches. He also returned 18 punts for 115 yards and seven kickoffs for 142 yards. In 2020, Palmer had 10 catches for 108 yards while returning seven kickoffs for 241 – including a 93-yard touchdown against South Carolina – and two punts for eight yards. Palmer earned playing time as a true freshman in 2019, when LSU won the national championship. He had a six-yard reception as a true freshman while returning three punts for 65 yards – including a 54-yard touchdown return against Northwestern State – and one kickoff for 11 yards.
Palmer was a five-star recruit coming out of Kentwood High School, where he helped the Kangaroos to the Class 1A state title with more than 1,000 receiving yards as a senior. Palmer was regarded as the No. 20 prospect in the nation by Rivals. He was also a track standout, winning the 100-meter state title as a senior and capturing four 200-meter state championships, including a state meet record-time of 21.11 in his senior season.

Trey was born on April 2, 2001, and is the son of Raymonda Callahan. He is majoring in child, youth and family studies.
