Senior (2021-22)
Mark Foelbaek (pronounced FOAL-back) continued to shave strokes off his game during the fall of 2021, finishing with a 74.78 stroke average over nine rounds for the Huskers. He capped a solid fall season with a season-best 216 (E) on a 7,460-yard layout at the Quail Valley Collegiate in Vero Beach, Fla. (Oct. 17-18). His performance at Quail Valley included a season-best 69 (-3) in the opening round on his way to a tie for 41st in a strong 84-player field.
Foelbaek earned a lineup spot to open his third season as a Husker and was Nebraska's No. 5 individual finisher at the Rod Myers Invitational after posting three consecutive rounds of 78 (+6). He finished with a 54-hole total of 234 on the par-72, 7,154-yard layout at the Duke University Golf Course (Sept. 11-12). He tied for 72nd individually in the 81-golfer field.
The senior from Jelling, Denmark earned another lineup spot at Nebraska's second tournament of the fall at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. He tied teammate Caleb Badura for 36th at 223 (73-75-75) as NU's No. 2 finishers in the 100-player field at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque. He and Badura both missed Nebraska's next tournament - the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational - because of illness.
Foelback opened the 2022 spring season with a 2-0 record to lead the Huskers at the Big Ten Match Play, before tying for 20th with a 222 (69-80-73) at the Desert Mountain Collegiate. His opening-round 69 matched his season best. He settled for a 233 (77-75-81) to finish 64th at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. (March 27-28), before finishing 35th with a 224 (76-77-71) at the Stitch Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. (April 8-9). At the Hawkeye Invitational (April 16-17), Foelbaek scored a 231 (76-79-76) and tied for 68th. He followed that up with a 234 at the Big Ten Championship (April 29-May 1) to close the season with a 75.71 stroke average through 24 rounds.
Senior (2020-21)
Foelbaek produced the best tournament performance of his Nebraska career at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational (April 17-18). He fired a four-under-par 67 on the final day to finish in a tie for fifth in a 60-golfer field on the par-71, 7,040-yard layout at Firethorn Golf Club. Foelbaek’s outstanding final round propelled him to a career-best three-round tournament total of 213 (73-73-67).
His performance earned him a spot in Nebraska’s lineup for the Big Ten Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., where he tied Badura in 42nd for NU’s best individual finish. Foelbaek’s three-round total of 233 (76-79-78) helped him finish with a season stroke average of 77.00 through nine spring rounds.
Prior to the spring season, Foelbaek won the Nebraska Open at Elks Country Club in Columbus with a 204 (-12, 69-68-67).
He opened the collegiate season in the spring of 2021 by competing in one match for the Huskers at the Big Ten Match Play Championship (Feb. 5-6). Foelbaek earned a lineup spot for the Huskers at the Lamkin San Diego Classic (March 8-10). He managed a three-round score of 247 (83-85-79, T110th).
Junior (2019-20)
Foelbaek competed in nine rounds during his first season as a Husker in 2019-20. The first-team NJCAA Division I PING All-American opened his Nebraska career by tying for 44th with a 226 (+10) at the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational (Sept. 14-15). He returned to the lineup for the Prairie Club Invitational, where he tied for 23rd with a 229 (+10) in Valentine, Neb. He was Nebraska’s No. 3 finisher at the event.
Foelbaek opened the spring by going 1-3 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship, helping the Huskers to a tie for fourth as a team. It matched Nebraska’s best finish ever at the event. He ended the season with a 78.44 stroke average over nine rounds.
For his efforts, Foelbaek was named the Nebraska men’s golf program’s Lifter of the Year.
Before Nebraska (Ranger College)
Foelbaek closed the 2018 fall season as the No. 1 ranked golfer in NJCAA Division I according to GolfStat before signing his National Letter of Intent to become a Husker on Nov. 29. Foelbaek closed his sophomore season at Ranger College in Texas with the No. 2 adjusted scoring average in the nation at 70.77, trailing only NJCAA Division I national champion and NJCAA Jack Nicklaus National Player-of-the-Year Award winner Callum Bruce from Midland (Texas) College.
Foelbaek helped Ranger College and Coach Houston Moore to a sixth-place team finish at the 2019 NJCAA Division I Championship. He fired a four-under-par 68 in the final round, following a one-under-par 71 in the third round. He finished with a four-round total of 296 to tie for 46th in the 122-player field at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., May 14-17.
He helped Ranger College earn its second-ever trip to the NJCAA Championship by placing third in the individual standings at the NJCAA Region V Championships. He fired back-to-back rounds of 69 and 68 to close the tournament and help the Rangers punch their ticket to nationals.
Foelbaek’s 2018 fall campaign was highlighted by a six-stroke victory over a top field at the High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, N.M. He fired a school-record 193 (-23) over three rounds (65-63-65). He also helped lead Ranger to a team title at the New Mexico Military Bronco Invitational, where he tied for fourth after rounds of 68 and 70. His strong play continued at the Tyler JC Fall Invitational, where he tied for third after a final-round 64 (-8).
An honor student with a 3.75 GPA at Ranger, he achieved top-five finishes in all four of events during the fall, posting a 68.4 stroke average.
Personal
Mark is the son of Poul Foelbaek and was born on July 11, 1997. A psychology major, Mark earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May 2022. He was a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He was a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He also earned prestigious Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar awards in 2021 and 2022.
