Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen announced Monday a change in the leadership of the Husker women’s gymnastics program.
The contract of Head Coach Heather Brink, who has served as Nebraska’s head coach for eight seasons, will not be renewed and a national search for a replacement will begin immediately. Brink’s contract is set to expire on June 30, 2026, and Nebraska will pay out the remainder of the contract.
“I want to thank Heather Brink for her service to our women’s gymnastics program and Husker Athletics,” Dannen said. “Heather has a great history here as a student-athlete, an assistant coach and as head coach, and she will always be known as one of the greatest Huskers. Moving forward, we will look for the right individual to build on the foundation Heather has put in place and elevate our program back to being a Big Ten and national contender.”
Nebraska finished the 2026 season last weekend with a fourth-place finish in an NCAA Regional second round in Baton Rouge. The Huskers finished 12th at the Big Ten Championships last month.
Brink took over as the head coach in 2019. In her first year led the Huskers to their best season during her tenure, finishing third at the Big Ten Championships and second in an NCAA Super Regional. Nebraska has qualified for an NCAA Regional the past four years but has not advanced past the second round. The Huskers’ highest conference finish over the past six seasons was sixth in 2022.
Brink competed for Nebraska from 1997 to 2000 and became the first Husker to win an NCAA all-around title in 2000, when she also captured the NCAA vault title. She was named to the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. In addition to her time as head coach since 2019, Brink served as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2018.
Nebraska has contracted with Elevate College to assist with the search for the next head coach of the Husker women’s gymnastics program.
