Nebraska Rifle Awaits a Pair of Top 10 Tests

In a pair of home matches this upcoming weekend, the No. 5 Nebraska rifle team hosts No. 8 Kentucky on Saturday, October 24 and No. 3 Alaska-Fairbanks on Sunday, October 25. Matches will start at 8 a.m. (CT) both days. Results can be found here and admission is free for fans.

Heading into Saturday, the Huskers are 2-3 after setbacks to No. 2 Ole Miss and No. 10 Memphis. Though the Big Red struggled, they still had some strong performances including Alivia Perkins shooting a 596 in the air rifle against Memphis (Oct. 11). It marked her third time with an air rifle score of 595 or higher in the first four matches of the season.

“I am looking forward to watching the team perform this weekend” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “The athletes have been working extremely hard to become comfortable with the uncomfortable, and I think it has set them up to see some really great things this weekend. It’s always fun to have top tier opponents come to town and should make for a couple of very close matches.”

Kentucky enters Saturday’s match 3-0, coming off a win over Akron, 4,718-4,693. Nebraska has won three of the last five matches in the series with the Wildcats, but the last match between the two teams ended in a tie, 4,736-4,736 at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Kentucky took the one place advantage over the Huskers because of a higher total of inner tens.

On Sunday, Alaska-Fairbanks will bring a 2-0 record to town. The Nanooks' two wins came during a pair of matches against Ohio State, which Nebraska beat earlier this season as well. The Huskers have won their last four matches against Alaska-Fairbanks, with the most recent victory coming in last year’s NCAA Championships. Alaska-Fairbanks placed eighth at nationals.

Following this weekend, the Big Red rifle team will take another weekend break before heading to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern on Sunday, November 8.
