Hardie, Chilia Lead Huskers at Cyclone Preview

AMES, Iowa - Nebraska cross country opened its 2026 season at the Cyclone Preview on Friday morning, with Alea Hardie taking home a 12th-place finish in the women’s 5k and Shadrack Chilia crossing the line in 20th in the men's 6k.  

Hardie paced the Huskers with a time of 17:25.1, while Chilia opened his collegiate career with a time of 18:58.0.  

Joining Hardie in the top 25 for the NU women were Sydney Drevlow (22nd, 17:57.8) and Erin Moore (25th, 18:09.4), who took home top-25 finishes for the Big Red, which finished in third place as a team with 98 points behind Minnesota (27) and Missouri (34).

Piper Petersen finished 29th, running 18:20.6 in her collegiate debut. Rounding out the scoring five for the NU women was Taya Fettig (40th, 18:37.1).

Shadrack Chilia (20th, 18:58.0) and Gabe Hinrichs (21st, 18:59.1) crossed the line first for the Husker men in the 6K race. David Krier (25th, 19:03.2) impressed with a top-25 finish in his first race as a NU athlete. With a time of 19:15.7, Max Myers finished 29th, and Patrick Flowers ran 19:24.8 to finish 34th. 

​The Minnesota men took first with 37 points, Missouri claimed second with 42 points, and Drake combined for 82 points to secure third.

​The Huskers return to Lincoln, Neb., to host the Greeno Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19th. The race will be held at Mahoney Park Golf Course.
