Huskers Wrap Up Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Nebraska cross country team competed in the Gans Creek Classic on Friday morning, with Rico Leijenaar and Ali Bainbridge leading the Husker men and women, respectively.

Leijenaar finished 24th in the 8k with a career-best time of 23:23.3, while Bainbridge finished 16th in the 6k at 19:56.4 to lead three top-25 finishes for the Nebraska women.

​In her collegiate 6k debut, Marion Jepchumba placed 19th with a time of 20:06.3. Berlyn Schutz came in 25th, crossing the line in 20:17.3.

Overall, the Husker women finished sixth of 29 teams with a score of 201. Missouri, the host school, took home the women’s title with a score of 56. The NU men placed 19th of 30 teams, accumulating 508 points.

The Huskers will continue their season at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 9.
