Nebraska senior Dylan Carey signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Mets organization on Monday.
Carey is the third Husker from this year’s team to continue with a Major League Baseball organization after Ty Horn and Carson Jasa were selected in the third round of the MLB Draft.
The Brooks Wallace Award winner earned All-America recognition this season, receiving first-team honors by College Baseball Foundation and third-team honors from Perfect Game.
Carey was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten after batting .353 with 16 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 65 RBI and 53 runs scored. The senior became the program’s all-time leader in career doubles this season and was the ninth Husker in program history to reach 200 career hits, 150 runs and 150 RBI.
Carey completed his Husker career ranked third all-time in program history in at-bats (905), fourth in hits (266), fifth in games played (235), sixth in total bases (439), seventh in hit by pitches (43) and assists (542) and 10th in RBI (167).
