Nebraska men’s tennis announced on Friday the signing of Jan Sebesta, the incoming junior transfer from Florida State. The Switzerland native will join the Nebraska roster in the fall of the 2026-27 season.
“We're really excited to have Jan be a part of our program," Nebraska head coach Peter Kobelt said. "Coming from a program like Florida State, he is going to bring a lot of experience as they were ACC champions in 2024-25 and being around a successful program like that, he'll bring a lot of experience and knowledge to our program here and those are things that we would like to do as a program."
In his sophomore season with the Seminoles, Sebesta played at the No. 1 doubles reaching a season record of 15-8 and overall record of 26-20 with an ITA doubles rank high of No. 38. Sebesta ended his sophomore campaign at the No. 39 spot in doubles. In singles, he obtained an overall record of 15-7, playing at the No. 5 and 6 spots towards the beginning of the spring season.
Off the court, Sebesta was named to the 2025 All-ACC Academic Team and was a 2025 ITA Scholar Athlete.
In his freshman season, he went 9-4 in singles and 11-12 in doubles, playing mainly at the three spot and helping the Seminoles to a 19-9 season and a first round win in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament over Samford. In the second round of the tournament, the freshman secured a win at No. 2 doubles over No. 13 South Carolina but the Seminoles fell in a 4-3 decider falling out of the tournament.
“We came away from the visit really liking him," Kobelt said. "We have a feeling he can he not only help us on the court with his game and his skills but also we think he's going to provide a great presence in our locker room as well as the community here in Lincoln."
Sebesta becomes the sixth recruit signed to the Nebraska men’s tennis 2026-27 roster.
