The No. 8 Nebraska softball team scored three runs in each of the first and second innings at Bowlin Stadium on Saturday afternoon and defeated Rutgers, 8-0, in five innings to improve to 28-6 (9-1 Big Ten) on the season.
Jordy Frahm and Samantha Bland each had two RBis for the Big Red, while Hannah Coor, Hannah Camenzind and Kacie Hoffmann each added a hit. Frahm homered and Bland added a triple.
Frahm (9-4) earned the win in the circle after throwing the complete-game shutout with four hits and nine strikeouts.
NU logged three runs in the bottom of the first, as Frahm walked and Coor singled to open the inning. H. Camenzind singled to score Frahm. She then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch that also scored Coor. Hoffmann singled to send H. Camenzind across the plate and wrap up the scoring in the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Frahm knocked a two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0. Coor walked, H. Camenzind reached on a fielder’s choice and Cope was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bland was hit by another pitch to score Coor.
The Big Red added two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Emmerson Cope walked and a Bland triple scored Katelyn Caneda, who pinch ran. Bland stole home to close out the shutout run-rule.
The Huskers will take on Rutgers again approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of this game. The contest will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
