In front of a program-best crowd of 3,396 fans, the No. 4 Nebraska softball team defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 5-2, on Friday night at Bowlin Stadium.
The Huskers took both games of the doubleheader and are now 39-6 on the season with a 19-1 mark in Big Ten play. Iowa fell to 25-24 (6-14 Big Ten).
Kacie Hoffmann was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game. Hannah Camenzind also added two RBIs, while Jordy Frahm, Hannah Coor, Jesse Farrell, Alina Felix and Lauren Camenzind each added a hit.
Alexis Jensen (19-2) grabbed the win in the circle. She threw a complete game with four hits and two runs, neither of which were earned, and eight strikeouts.
Iowa scored two in the top of the first on a two-RBI single.
The Huskers tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first, as Frahm singled and Coor followed her with a single of her own and an advance on the throw to put runners on first and second. A H. Camenzind groundout scored Frahm and Coor crossed the plate on an Ava Kuszak sacrifice bunt.
Felix singled up the middle to open the bottom of the second and went home on a Hoffmann double. Hoffmann went to third on a L. Camenzind single and scored on a Hawkeye error to extend the lead to 4-2.
The Huskers added their final run of the game in the bottom of the third, as Farrell walked, went to second on a Samantha Bland sac bunt and scored on a Hoffmann RBI single.
The series finale between Nebraska and Iowa is set for tomorrow, April 25, at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network or on 105.3 FM. The Huskers will honor their 12 seniors following tomorrow's game.
