Huskers Conclude Day Two of Drake Relays

The Nebraska track and field team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Drake Relays and its first day with athletes competing. 

Jana Lowka highlighted the day with a personal-best throw of 56.74m (186-2) to claim sixth in the women’s javelin WACT competition and move into third in school history. 

Hannes Fahl was the first Husker on the track making his 2026 season debut, running 3:50.15 in the men’s 1500m UD/CD division to finish second. 

Cami Merickel won the women’s 3000m steeplechase in the open division, crossing the line in 10:32.34

Alea Hardie added another event title after winning the Open Division (Unseeded) of the women’s 5000m, running 16:54.69.

On the men’s side, Rico Leijenaar claimed second, clocking a 14:32.33 in his first track competition of the season. Kaleb Sharp won the men’s 800m UD/CD division (Unseeded) title, running 1:51.28.

The Huskers will be back in action tomorrow with field events beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running events starting at 8:35 a.m.
