Strachan Launches Javelin School Record

Keyshawn Strachan set a new school record and personal best in the men’s javelin with his last throw of 81.86m (268-7). The senior from Nassau, Bahamas marked the best in the country for the NCAA DI standards from his throw at the Big Red Classic in Lincoln, Neb on Friday afternoon. Strachan recorded an 81.01m (265-9) throw last season at the Drake Relays. 

Augustus Henry and Hayden Gorovitz completed the podium for Nebraska. Henry threw a 68.17m (223-8), while Gorovitz reached a 64.07m (210-2).

Jana Lowka threw 56.33m (184-9) to claim second in the women’s javelin and moved into fifth in school history. 

Louis Martinez and Kyle Hensley grabbed first and second, respectively, in the men’s pole vault. Martinez cleared 5.06m (16-7 ¼), while Hensley followed with clearing 4.91m (16-1 ¼). 

In men’s long jump, senior Michael Buchanan jumped to a top-three finish with a distance of 7.29m (23-11). 

Victoria Aransiola claimed first in the 200m sprint with a time of 24.21, while Jordan Metzler claimed third for the Husker women’s 800m with a time of 2:13.69.

In the men’s 800m, sophomore William McDavid notched a third-place finish with a time of 1:57.59. 

Gustav Rydaker threw a personal best 64.15m (210-5) in the men’s hammer throw to claim an eighth-place finish. Sage Burbach added a PR of her own on the women’s side, throwing 54.55m (178-11) to finish 12th.

Arina Razina recorded a 4.06m (13-3 ¾) in the women’s pole vault to take gold in the event. Timeke-Jade Coetzee, the sophomore hailing from Pretoria, South Africa took third in women’s long jump, with a length of 5.85m (19-2 ½). 

Five mid-distance runners competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Stadium, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Berlyn Schutz highlighted the day by running 2:03.11 in the women’s 800m invite to finish seventh. Kaleb Sharp added a PR, running 1:48.27 in the men’s 800m invite. 

The Huskers will resume action for the Big Red Classic on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 11:00 a.m. (CT) with the women’s 3000m steeplechase. At home action can be streamed on B1G+ and RunnerSpace+.
