The No. 49 Nebraska men’s tennis team (10-9, 2-6 Big Ten) will stay home to play a single dual vs. No. 36 Wisconsin (13-5, 4-4 Big Ten) on Saturday, April 4 at 12 P.M. (CT) at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Nebraska is coming into this match after a split weekend vs. Washington and No. 46 Oregon. The Huskers dropped their first match vs. Washington, 4-3 on March 27 but then came firing back in an outdoor battle with the Ducks as they acquired their third ranked win of the season with a 4-3 win over Oregon on March 29.
With a 2-0 singles record last weekend, senior Joan Torres Espinosa notched the 50th singles win of his career taking wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots vs. Washington and Oregon. Espinosa currently sits with 10 wins in his senior season. Record wise, redshirt sophomore Colson Wells leads the team with an 11-7 singles record. In doubles, junior Henry Lamchinniah carries with him a team-high 12 doubles wins.
The Rankings
After its 1-1 weekend, Nebraska men’s tennis climbed up to the No. 49 spot after previously being the No. 54 ranked team in the ITA National Rankings. This current ranking puts the Huskers at their third highest ranking this season. In singles, senior Nikolay Sysoev is the lone ranked Husker as he drops down to the No. 107 ranked singles player after previously being No. 81.
Wisconsin (13-5, 4-4 Big Ten)
History: Wisconsin leads the series against Nebraska, 14-9. In their meeting last season, the Huskers swept the Badgers, 4-0 in Madison.
Wisconsin comes to Lincoln off a 4-0 sweep vs. Washington. The Badgers this season have Big Ten wins over Purdue, No. 52 Michigan, No. 44 Northwestern, No. 46 Oregon and Washington.
Ranked Opponents
The Badgers squad will bring with them one ranked singles player being senior Michael Minasyan who holds a No. 84 rank and an 11-11 record on the season.
