Written byPaige Trutna

Jordy Frahm threw 5.1 hitless innings and allowed only two hits, while the No. 10 Nebraska softball team hit two homers en route to a 4-1 win over the Omaha Mavericks at Bowlin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Big Red moved to 17-5 on the season and 3-0 on the weekend.

Frahm (6-3) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing a complete game with only one run and two hits. She also struck out eight. Maddia Groff (4-3) took the loss for the Mavericks.

Ava Kuszak and Jesse Farrell each went 2-for-3 and hit solo shots for the Big Red, while Hannah Camenzind and Kacie Hoffmann accounted for the other two RBI.

NU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on Farrell’s solo homer and extended the lead to 2-0 in the third after H. Camenzind, Farrell and Kuszak hit three straight singles and H. Camenzind crossed the plate on a Hoffmann hit.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lauren Camenzind singled and went to third on an error that put Samantha Bland on base. She scored on an H. Camenzind groundout.

Nebraska posted its final run of the game on Kuszak’s homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Omaha hit a home run in the top of the seventh to account for its only score of the day.

The Huskers will take on the Mavericks again tomorrow, March 8. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network. Fans can purchase tickets at huskers.com/tickets.
