The Nebraska women’s soccer team began the spring season against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 4-1 home win on Saturday afternoon at the Barbara Hibner Field.
South Dakota State goalie Mallorie Benhart accumulated four saves, but proved not to be enough for the Huskers’ offensive efforts.
Husker goalies Greer Kice and Maddy Osborn each recorded saves in defensive relief efforts.
Nebraska was the first to strike, with an early goal in the first period. Reese Snowden began the spring season with an assist for an early goal from Kayma Carpenter.
Late in the first period, Alessandra Geraneo was assisted by Ava Mackovicka. Shortly following the sophomore’s goal, Nathalie Lewis added a goal after her two shot attempts. The goal was assisted by Snowden for her second of the game.
In the second period, Ava Mackovicka added to her own score count with the final Husker goal of the game. Charlie Wistorm added an assist to her line.
The Jackrabbits’ Emma Brezenski grabbed the team’s only goal of the game late in the third period with an unassisted shot.
Nebraska will travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to face the Kansas Jayhawks for its second spring game on Saturday, March 28. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. (CT).
