Huskers Down SDSU in Home Opener

The No. 10 Nebraska softball team grabbed two victories over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by scores of 9-4 and 8-1 (five innings) on Thursday in the home opener at Bowlin Stadium.

In the first game of the day, NU downed SDSU, 9-4, behind hits from seven Huskers and a seven-inning pitching performance from Alexis Jensen

Jordy Frahm led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game, while Hannah Camenzind and Ava Kuszak added home runs. H. Camenzind had three RBI and Kuszak had two. Jesse Farrell contributed two hits.

Jensen (7-2) grabbed the win with her second complete game of the year and a career-high 13 strikeouts, which was the most by any Nebraska pitcher this season. She allowed four runs and seven hits in her seven innings.

Frahm singled and stole second to open the bottom of the first and scored on a Samantha Bland bunt and SDSU error. H. Camenzind walked to send Bland to second and both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Farrell singled to score Bland and make the score 2-0.

South Dakota State homered in the second to cut the lead to 2-1 and hit a three-run shot in the third to take a 4-2 lead.

Farrell doubled in the bottom of the third and Kuszak tied the score at 4-4 with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Huskers extended the lead to 9-4 with five hits. Hannah Coor and Malia Thoms singled, and Katelyn Caneda pinch ran for Thoms. The two scored on a Frahm single up the middle before Bland walked. H. Camenzind knocked a three-run shot to center field to wrap up the scoring.

Jensen recorded eight strikeouts in the final three innings to close out the win for the Huskers.
