Huskers Dominate in Run-Rule Win Over Spartans

The No. 9 Nebraska softball team scored 13 runs on 16 hits and allowed no runs by Michigan State, and downed the Spartans, 13-0, on Saturday afternoon at Secchia Stadium in East Lansing, Mich.

Nine different Huskers posted a hit, led by Kacie Hoffmann with a career-high four hits. Jordy Frahm, Samantha Bland, Jesse Farrell and Alexis Jensen each had two. Frahm and Jensen added three RBI apiece and Bland and Hoffmann each contributed two. Hannah Camenzind and Hannah Coor each hit a triple, and Bland, Farrell and Jensen all had doubles. With the victory, NU extended its win streak to 12 games and improved to 23-5 (5-0 Big Ten) on the season.

Kuszak opened the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the second. Coor knocked a triple and eventually scored on a Hoffmann RBI single. Frahm singled and Lauren Camenzind, who pinch ran for Hoffmann, went to second. L. Camenzind crossed the plate on a Bland hit to put the Husker lead at 3-0.

NU extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth on a Bland double that scored Hoffmann, who singled earlier in the inning.

Michigan State mounted a threat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, but Bland recorded a pair of outs to help keep the Spartans scoreless.

In the top of the fifth, Farrell hit a leadoff double and Jensen homered to make the score 6-0. Hoffmann singled then went to third on a pair of walks and eventually scored on an MSU error.

H. Camenzind tripled to open the top of the sixth and scored on a Farrell single. Farrell crossed the plate on a Jensen RBI double, and Caneda came in to pinch run for Jensen. Hoffmann’s fourth hit of the day sent Caneda across the plate before Felix singled and Frahm hit a three-run shot to make the lead 13-0.
