The Nebraska bowling team went 1-1 Friday at the Conference USA Bowling Championship in Harahan, Louisiana. The No. 5 seed Huskers fell to No. 1 seed Jacksonville State but rebounded with a victory over No. 8 Sam Houston State.
Nebraska is one of four remaining teams at the double-elimination championship, which began with 12 teams. The Huskers will need to win twice on Saturday to advance to the championship match on Sunday. Nebraska will face Louisiana Tech in an elimination matchup at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Huskers defeated the Bulldogs in a tiebreaker on Thursday.
In the first match Friday in the winner’s bracket semifinals, Nebraska jumped out to a 1-0 lead against top-seeded Jacksonville State before the Gamecocks rallied to win the match, 2-1. The Huskers won by a pinfall of 1,049-1,034 in the traditional opening game before Jacksonville State won the Baker match to send the matchup into a tiebreaker. Nebraska won the first game of the best-of-seven tiebreaker, but the Gamecocks rattled off four straight wins to take the tiebreaker, 4-1.
Nebraska returned to the lanes in an elimination matchup against No. 8 Sam Houston. Once again the Huskers were strong in the traditional match, defeating the Bearkats 1,045-990. Nebraska then closed out the 2-0 sweep with a 1,086-1,079 victory in the Baker match.
