The No. 9 Nebraska softball team registered a seven-run sixth inning and run-ruled the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 9-1, in six innings on Friday evening in Tulsa, Okla.
With the win, NU improved to 13-5 on the season and 2-1 on the weekend. Tulsa fell to 6-10.
Hannah Camenzind and Samantha Bland each logged two RBIs on the day, while Jordy Frahm posted two hits. Eight other Huskers contributed one hit apiece to help NU outhit Tulsa, 10-2. Jordy Frahm scored two runs for the Big Red. Bland and Kacie Hoffmann each hit a home run, while Frahm and H. Camenzind each knocked a double.
Alexis Jensen (6-2) went all six innings in the circle to claim the win for NU. She struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits and one run. Maura Moore (3–4) took the loss for TU.
NU opened up the scoring in the top of the first, as Kuszak doubled and Frahm singled to send her across the plate to make the score 1-0.
Hoffmann knocked a solo home run in the top of the second to extend the edge to 2-0.
Tulsa hit a homer in the bottom of the second to account for its only run of the day.
The two teams went scoreless for the third, fourth and fifth innings before the seven-run six inning propelled Nebraska to the run-rule win. Hoffmann started the inning with a walk and Katelyn Caneda came in to pinch run for her. Caneda went to second on a Hannah Coor sac bunt before Jensen was hit by a pitch. Nessa McMillen pinch ran and Lauren Camenzind singled to left field to score Caneda and send McMillen to second. Frahm walked to load the bases and H. Camenzind’s double scored her sister and McMillen. Frahm crossed the plate on a Farrell single that also sent H. Camenzind to third. Dakota Carter pinch ran for Farrell, and she stole second and H. Camenzind stole home before a Bland homer closed out the big inning and the 9-1 win.
The Huskers will head back to Stillwater, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls tomorrow, Feb. 28. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
